About Us

PsyOnc Partners was founded by Drs. Allison Applebaum, Wendy Lichtenthal, and Hayley Pessin to advance the training and delivery of evidence-based psychological care for people living with cancer and other serious illnesses.

Drawing on the framework of Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy (MCP)—developed by Dr. William Breitbart and colleagues at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center—our mission is to help behavioral health providers learn and integrate the existential, spiritual, and psychological principles of MCP into oncology care. MCP offers structured, manualized interventions that help individuals sustain or rediscover a sense of meaning, identity, and purpose in the face of illness.

At PsyOnc Partners, we believe that meaning and suffering can coexist, and that fostering a sense of purpose and connection can profoundly reduce despair, hopelessness, and loss of identity. Through workshops, supervision, and program development, we support clinicians and institutions seeking to embed MCP-informed approaches into their practice—helping patients, families, and care teams find meaning even in life’s most challenging moments.
